BlogCatalog Community Organ Donation Awareness Campaign

This time , i'm not talking about $Money$

I ' m Talking About Organ, ORGAN DONATION.

IT’S a waiting game, a deadly waiting game. If they do not get an organ soon, they will suffer and die. (this figures from my country)

Special Thanks to BlogCatalog! This time , BlogCatalog form together again all bloggers around the world to raise awareness about organ donation and the good it can do.

Organ donation - it could mean the difference between life and death for another person.

Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race, or medical history. For people whose organs are failing because of disease or injury, donated organs and tissue may offer the gift of sight, freedom from machines, or even life itself.

While it is important to talk about end-of-life decisions including organ donation, it is becoming more common to donate organs and partial organs while living. Kidneys are the most common organ donated by living donors. Other organs that can be donated include a lobe of a lung, partial liver, pancreas or intestine.

Did you know that.....
  • Almost 100,000 men, women and children currently need life-saving organ transplants.

  • Every 12 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.

  • An average of 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant.

  • In Australia, more than 1,700 people are waiting for organ transplants.

  • In Latin America, more than 50,000.

  • In Europe and the United States, more than 170,000.

  • In China, more than 2 million.

  • and last but not least, my loving country Malaysia : There are 15,500 people waiting for kidney transplants and more than 300 who urgently need liver transplants.

  • and so many others countries which i couldn't get the figures here ..... sorry!!!

"I don't want to pray for a heart because it means the death of another child, but I just hope if one does happen to die, it's a match," says one waiting parent.

Of course, i know that many people will ask this question.....
"Does my religion approve of organ donation and transplantation?"

Religious Viewpoints
A common question that arises when people are considering organ and tissue donation is, "Does my religion approve of organ donation and transplantation?"
Surveys find that few individuals are aware of their own religion's doctrines regarding organ and tissue donation. In fact, most major religions encourage organ and tissue donation, and many of them at the very least allow their followers to make a personal decision in this regard.

Great post! I plugged BlogCatalog a couple days ago myself. We're working on registering 3.5 million people as lifesaving donors by April 2008 as part of the Donate Life Illinois campaign. You may be interested in checking out our blog at: http://iam-areyou.blogspot.com/

Best,

What a great idea - I will definitely blog about this on Wednesday, and encourage all WoW members to get involved. But first stop: to get a donation card myself. It's been something I've meant to do for a long time - now your initiative has given me the spur to do it - today! Can't very well go blogging about something I haven't done myself.
